Every FMK condition
299 diseases, deficiencies, toxicities and drug mechanisms harvested from every FMK deck — the ones sprinkled through a single bullet as much as the ones with their own slide. Pick what you're given and what you have to name, or let it cycle; distractors come from the same category so you have to discriminate (hypoketotic vs. ketotic hypoglycemia, which GSD, which urea-cycle enzyme…). Every answer shows the whole card with the lecture and slide.
Protein structure · FMK 06.1
Parkinson disease Acquired / not inherited
Defect / target: Misfolded α-synuclein
Mechanism: Loss of nigral neurons that make dopamine (tyrosine → L-DOPA via BH₄-dependent tyrosine hydroxylase → dopamine via AADC) produces a movement disorder.
↑ Accumulates: Intracellular α-synuclein aggregates (Lewy bodies)· ↓ Deficient: Dopamine
Presentation: Neurodegenerative movement disorder (see 07.2 for dopamine loss)
Treatment: Textbook: L-DOPA (crosses blood-brain barrier, decarboxylated by AADC)
Neurodegenerative proteinopathy example under 'When Gene Regulation Fails'
acquired/idiopathic
Learn the mechanism: Catecholamines, serotonin & the tyrosine tree →
