Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) poisoning Acquired / not inherited
Defect / target: Complex IV (cytochrome c oxidase)
Mechanism: H₂S, like cyanide and CO, inhibits cytochrome c oxidase so O₂ is not reduced and the ETC stops.
↑ Accumulates: NADH, lactate· ↓ Deficient: ATP
Presentation: listed as a Complex IV inhibitor alongside cyanide and CO (ETC stops, ATP failure)
