Defect / target: Fructokinase
Mechanism: Fructose is not phosphorylated so it is not trapped in cells and simply accumulates in blood and urine — benign.
↑ Accumulates: fructose (blood and urine)
Presentation: asymptomatic, benign
Labs: positive copper-reduction (reducing sugar) test, negative glucose oxidase test
Treatment: None required
Fructo KINASE deficiency → Fructose not KIDNAPPED (benign)
