Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) X-linked recessive
Defect / target: NADPH oxidase (phagocytes)
Mechanism: Neutrophils cannot generate superoxide during the respiratory burst, so catalase-positive organisms are not killed and granulomas form.
· ↓ Deficient: superoxide / H₂O₂ / HOCl in phagocytes
Presentation: recurrent Staphylococcus aureus and Aspergillus infections, granuloma formation
Labs: Negative NBT test (no blue color — NBT reduction requires superoxide)
